I have not been posting on my blog as much as I would like! But I have a bunch of topics in mind and hopefully can post more regularly. Lately I’ve been working on a little home maintenance, which is not super exciting, but as a new condo owner it feels fun at the moment!
For starters, I have noticed a lot of cracks in the kitchen that made it look unfinished and “blah” (for lack of a better word). I did a little research and found that I should use paintable siliconized acrylic latex caulk. There are a million types of caulk and if using near or on a wall you want the paintable type. Here is the one I got and it works great.
Paint was very cracked above my kitchen cabinets so I sealed that up! Also next to the cabinet as well. I forgot a before picture but this is how it looks now.
Next little maintenance item was replacing the toilet bolt cover caps. It always bothered me that one cap was missing and the other was broken and wobbly. Replacing the bolt cover caps is very easy, anyone can do it, and it takes just a couple minutes! Here is the end result.
I had also put caulk around the base of the toilet, I read it’s good to caulk there for a clean finished look in the bathroom. Plus there was a slight gap between the toilet and the floor so now it looks better.
Another maintenance item was sealing up gaps around the windows. I used caulk cord weatherseal and I totally love it! First of all, regular caulk can be very messy as I have learned. This caulk cord has strips of caulk, you just pull it apart and press it on wherever you need it. Very quick and easy and no mess! This is a product I definitely recommend.
For larger gaps I was told to get moldable silicone putty. I put it around a pipe under my kitchen sink. It was not as stretchy and pliable as I was hoping it would be but it did cover all the gaps around the pipe and seems to be sticking just fine. Plus like the caulk cord it seems like it would be easy to remove if needed. What are some of your favorite products for home maintenance?
